Pendle Hill
Business is quietening down a little and an early finish on this Friday allowed for a longer-than-usual ascent of the local fell. I parked in Barley and found a new way up onto the fields, leading to Fell Wood. Nelson Waterworks is being renovated and turned into living accommodation.
Waterworks
The reason for heading for the woods was simply because woodlands have been in the news this week and I wanted to take a look.
The Den
In Fellwood there is an eerie silence, sunlight is in short supply and Bear Grylls has been in the neighbourhood. This assembly has a sleeping space under the black polythene, lined with reeds.
Den II
There was evidence to suggest that persons had resided under the tree's roots. The evidence being the usual littering. The woodlands are a national if not always natural asset. Walkers and other visitors have broad access and this is well protected. It's up to us to look after them and earn our continued right to wander freely among the trees.
Upper Ogden Reservoir
Out of the woods and heading for Upper Ogden Reservoir.
Ogden Clough
My route takes me nearly all the way to the top of Ogden Clough before taking the flagged route to the top of Pendle Hill.
Sunset
Near the top of the flagged pathway.
